Best Wide Angle Lens For the Nikon D90?
Recently I’ve been very intrigued by purchasing a true wide angle lens for my D90. When I say true wide angle I’m talking about anything under 18mm. I see there are a lot of choices out there but after researching a ton of information online it’s definitely apparent you or I will want to get a wide angle lens made specifically for our cameras APS-C type sensor. I read this from Tom Atkins over at Photo.net he said “One of the disadvantages of small sensor APS-C Digital SLR cameras is that the 1.6x multiplier/crop factor makes all your existing 35mm wide-angle lenses into "not so wide" angle lenses.” Our Nikon D90 camera is slightly better, with a 1.5x multiplier/crop, but still basically suffers from the same problem. So here are all the wide angle lenses that are made for our D90 APS-C sensor! If this is not correct please someone let me know, Thanks! I'm personally leaning toward the Tokina 11-16 2.8 right now.

You should include the Nikkor 10-24 in your considerations. I'm very happy with the sharpness of mine.
I have the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 on my D90 and I'm very very happy with it. Straight lines stay straight and it's very sharp. It also feels nice to use - very solid. It's the only non-Nikkor lens I have, but the build quality and performance is excellent. Check out my website www.jntphotography.com.au to see some of the shots taken using this lens. Let me know what you think.
JamieWebster! You have a great web site your pictures are awesome....I'm going to try and get that lens is soon as i can.
Conrad, thanks for the info on the Nikon 10-24 i see good reviews on that lens...i'll check it out...
I brought the Tokina 11-16mm for my D90 last year and could not be happier with the lens.
Straight lines, sharp, nice and fast at F2.8.
I did look at the Nikon wide and the price compared to the Tokina... and the Tokina not only won on price it won because it was a vastly better lens

Everything I've heard says the Tonkina 11-16mm will be a purchase you won't regret, unless you really, really want to pay double just to have your lens say "Nikon" on the side. It's the lens I'm planning on getting eventually as well... I'm just waiting for the check from that Namibian prince who keeps emailing me to clear. ;)
Tiff, LOL! "Namibian prince" That's funny! I was just about to order this lens when a good deal came up on the Tamron 90mm Macro for $280 bucks so I'm now waiting for that to be delivered! But i still have my eye on the Tokina 11-16! Thanks for the laugh!
LMAOO at Tiff. that nambian Prince has been trying to give me all this money for quiet some time now. whenever your check clears please be sure to conatact me so i can reply to his hundreds of E-Mails.
well sigma just presented his new 8-16 for aps-c sensors ... think that will be THE ONE !!! :D just curious to see the price
Helicron, I saw that! I'm looking forward to seeing the price also...
I just placed an order for the Tokina 11-16mm. It's hard to find. Most places are out of stock or want an arm and a leg for it. I also ordered a Nikon 70-300mm. Should get that tomorrow or the next day. I can't wait. There's an airshow this weekend I hope to get lots of shots.
The air show was a wash. Down-poured all day. It rained the following weekend as well. I just got three new lenses and haven't had the chance to try them out yet. Argh!
Patty, I feel your pain! Hopefully you'll get a chance to play with all your new lenses soon!
I had a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 for a few weeks and it was good.
After that I decided to try with a lens with more range, so I purchased a Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5.
After some months with images with orange tint and a slow and difficult AF, finally I sold it.
I thought to buy a Nikkor 10-24mm, but again this was a f3.5-4.5, so I finally went for a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and... WoW!!!!, really fantastic.
You can check pics I've shot with it: click
Hi, Happy I found your blog. I have a blog on interior design and would like to take some of my own shots. Which wide angle lens would you recommend? TIA
Emily, I'm sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. I've been extremely busy. I visited your blog. Very nice, some great shots you have. I've only used the Tokina 11-16 lens for my couple interior jobs so unfortunately I cant compare on other lens. But I guarantee you'll be happy with the Tokina 11-16.
what would be a good wide angle prime lens?
