It's Official...

As of May 15th, the D90 was officially discontinued on the Nikon Japan site... However, you can still buy (that's right, BUY) the D90 directly from Nikon USA! I guess they are trying to get rid of their stock?

SO! That means that y'all that actually do own one, are now the proud owners of an antique! Give it 10-20 years, and you can sell it for what you paid for it!

In other news, you can buy a 50mm f/1.8 AF-S with auto-focus on June 2nd.

And here's another picture, for those of you who are interested...

What's replacing the d90?

Jen, it was supposedly to be the new Nikon D7000, All I know the D90 will live on for years and years just as the D80 did and still does! Statistically the D90 is still one of Nikon's most popular camera...We will continue to support our beloved D90 here at D90 everything forever!

I owned a D90 for 2 years now, and I still like it very much. It is sad to hear that D90 is discontinued.

I believe the Nikon D5100 will be the new replacement (the introduction date of D5100 and discontinuance date of the D90 are about the same).

The D90 has been a SOLID camera. However, I have had my eye on the D5000 and am now set on getting the D5100. Great camera with better reviews.

What's different and/or better about this 50mm 1.8 compared to the old 50mm 1.8?

Wonderful review! Very helpful indeed. I am thinking of getting a new DSLR camera and I can't decide what to get between these two top rated cameras in the market, the Nikon D5100 and Nikon D90. Will definitely consider your review and I hope I won't regret my purchase! Thanks! ;)

@Anonymous: The difference between the different lenses is the presence of a drive motor. The new 50mm has a drive motor, which allows it too be used on lower-end Nikons...

It is indeed sad that the much-loved D90 model is being retired...

Why do companies retire very successful models? I love my D90

Yeah, the Nikon D90 is still a great camera and I agree it will live on for a long time. In fact the image I used for my photoshop airbrush video tutorial that I posted just a few days ago was taken with a D90. If you own one, keep it, these will soon be difficult to find in the market.

Well i just bought a new one due to a really good special, i could have taken the D90 or the D3100 both with a 18mm - 55mm stock lens. I've only had my D90 a couple of days now and i am already in love with it and very glad i took the D90 over the D3100. I might be shunned for buying one so long after they discontinued it but i am a beginner and feel this camera will take me very far before i need to upgrade it and reading this blog it seems everyone is very happy with their D90s.
